Why Do You Need an Arizona Bill of Sale Form?
A Bill of Sale is not a compulsory legal requirement for personal property transactions in Arizona. However, it is advisable to always have written evidence that can be legally enforced.
For motor vehicles, the buyer needs an Arizona Bill of Sale, ADOT Form 48-2004. It is used to transfer the title and register the vehicle with the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division(MVD).
It provides essential details such as the;

- Current odometer reading
- Agreed-upon sale price
According to Arizona Statute § 47-2201 (Statute of Frauds), the sale of goods above $500 must have a written agreement. This requirement makes a Bill of Sale necessary in Arizona before a property transfer can be enforced.

A Bill of Sale is not a legal requirement in Arizona, especially for personal property sales. However, it is best to record the transfer with a written document when it comes to items of high value.
A Bill of Sale for a vehicle in Arizona must have identification details of all parties involved. These include full names, addresses, and contact lines. It must also have the vehicle's details, like the identification number, model, year, and make.
As of fall 2022, Arizona no longer requires a notarized signature for title transfer. While the MVD Bill of Sale form 48-2004 still has a notary section, it is not a necessity.
The purchaser will need to bring an ADOT Form 48-2004, the vehicle title and other documents to the DMV. This is needed to complete the process and then submit to an Arizona MVD office or an Authorized Third Party agent. Buyers must apply for a new title within 15 days after purchase to avoid penalties. The seller is also required to send a "Sold Notice" Form 46-8502 to the MVD within ten days of sale.
